Recently introduced by body repair specialists Power-TEC is this paint thickness gauge (part number 92604). This compact gauge is used for quick, easy and accurate non-destructive measurement of coating/paint thickness, which enables the professional bodyshop to accurately assess the thickness of paint and check for accident damage.

A big feature is that the gauge can be used on both steel and aluminium alloy bodywork. It uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to measure the thickness of a non-magnetic coating (for example, paint) on a magnetic conductive substrate (steel or other ferrous metal). It also uses the eddy current effect to measure the thickness of a non-conductive coating (paint) on a non-magnetic conductive substrate (aluminium alloy).

The sensing probe at the bottom of the gauge is spring mounted within the probe outer collar. This makes stable positioning easy and provides a consistent contact pressure. A V-groove in the outer collar enables reliable readings on small-diameter cylindrical parts.

The unit is supplied in a protective case and a set of steel and aluminium alloy substrate samples are included for calibration purposes. The gauge is calibrated during manufacture, but users may carry out recalibration if necessary.
